The services provided at Women First Rehabilitation are evidence-based, effective and state-of-the-art. We successfully treat women who suffer with:
When musculoskeletal dysfunction is identified, special techniques are available to restore and heal injured muscles. Intravaginal and external manual therapy techniques help relax muscle spasms and guarding, melt away trigger points and release restricted tissues. Restored muscles will result in improved function, decreased pain and greater overall stability.
Electromyograph (EMG) biofeedback has been shown to produce rapid and significant development of strength when combined with more traditional forms of physical therapy. It has been successfully used for muscle reeducation and muscle strengthening and down-training spastic/guarded muscles, as typically seen in women with pelvic pain.
Building muscular strength and joint stability is effective at increasing body function and thus improving quality of life. With our unique, customized exercise programs, we are able to specifically and intentionally isolate weak muscles to safely build muscle power and whole body stability.
The use of electrical nerve stimulation is beneficial at alleviating pain (TENS), building muscular strength and decreasing abnormal bladder spasms. It also offers a favorable alternative to pain medications for pain reduction.
With regards to the bladder, some women may experience urgency and/or frequency symptoms, bladder pressure, bladder pain or discomfort or accidental loss of urine. In order to gain adequate bladder control and maximize the treatments being performed, women will be educated on bladder irritants that are hostile to the bladder (which incidentally may be fueling the underlying problem) and educated on obtaining a healthy bladder schedule.
Pain can cause women to stand and move in limited ways. When the pain becomes chronic and/or severe, faulty posture and positioning commonly become habitual. We are trained in assessing postural or movement impairments and will help divert bad habits into good while decreasing pain and preventing future injuries.
